Workshops
Blast Radius are highly experienced artist-educators, working with a range of ages, abilities and motivations to develop landscape and place-inspired workshops.
In the Field - Recording
As part of Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s 2026 Festival of Nature, Blast Radius researchers Jane Watt and SE Barnet lead a participatory field recording workshop with University of Fine Art students at Martlesham Wilds in October 2026
In the workshop the artists undertake quadrat photography, audio recording and observational drawing in the site formerly known as Hall Farm Field. This is part of Blast Radius’ long-term art project at Martlesham Wilds: In the Field – a wilder laboratory in which they combine art and science monitoring processes to record and observe ecological change at The Wilds as the site transforms from an arable agriculture landscape through natural restoration process.
Postcards from the Beach
Blast Radius artists and researchers Jane Watt and SE Barnet led a University of Suffolk one-day drawing workshop on Lowestoft Beach for the 2026 First Light Festival.
Over the course of the day 250 members of the public took part in creating over 200 postcard-sized pencil and watercolour drawings inspired by John Constable’s en plein air observations of the Suffolk landscape and south coast seascapes.
The drawings were kept or sent by the participants to personal collections around the country. A digital collection of the postcards is included in the Constable to Contemporary exhibition in Christchurch Mansion as part of Colchester and Ipswich Museum’s Constable 250 celebrations in 2026.
Pier Projects: Socially Engaged Art Practice in the East: Ports, Portals and New Possibilities
Blast Radius developed an action lab workshop DIY Residencies, as part of this symposium on 6 November 2025
The symposium brought together socially-engaged artists, arts practitioners, community members and representatives from local authority universities and interested stakeholders to map social arts practice in the region, share knowledge, ignite new conversations and foster new collaboration.
Dusk to Dawn
Dusk to Dawn is an annual overnight public workshop on Orford Ness devised and led by Blast Radius for the National Trust from 2023-2025
Artists and photographers experienced and observed Orford Ness’ incredible landscape, watching light and colour shift and change across the shingle, marshland, water and sky from dusk to dawn.
The overnight stay afforded a unique experience of seeing Cold War architecture in moonlight, and watching the sun come up over the north sea.
The workshop encouraged sharing of work and ideas with an evening projection of images made during the workshop.
